About

Our Mission: Every Bear Goes Home is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing injury and the loss of life by encouraging safe party practices in the college community.

Our History: Based in Berkeley, CA, we partner with the Berkeley Fire Department, as well as other local public safety organizations and student groups to address what we believe to be a growing trend in the use of emergency services during social events.  Our presenters represent decades of experience responding to emergencies in the local community, giving them a unique perspective on the reality of the college social experience.  Through a realistic, honest approach to alcohol use, our goal is help students understand how drinking affects the body’s physiology.  Through case-based scenario’s, we explain fire safety and how to mitigate risk.  We also explain how our agencies interact with the community and how we can work together.

Our Goal: The lessons of EBGH are important for every Cal student to be safe, to learn to survive their college years, to help others survive, and to respect the first-responder needs of the larger Berkeley community. We want to teach students how to be safe while they are having fun. We deliver this presentation in a very raw and real manner. We also create a meaningful open discussion. We give the students the opportunity to ask questions and to discuss their worries and fears. We find them receptive to this type of presentation. The students remain very engaged and interested in the topics presented. Each semester I tweak the presentation to further fit the needs and wants of the students. At the end of each presentation, students fill out feedback forms with very helpful information. We are learning, too. We deliver information the students want to hear.

We are only able to do what we do through grants and private donations.  If you would like to contribute to EBGH, you can make a tax deductible contribution to our program HERE.
